Ann-Kristin and Jonny are cabin owners in Utsikten Hyttefelt. They live in Øyer near Hafjell, and appreciate the opportunity to travel up to the silence and proximity to nature that Lemonsjøen offers at every opportunity. In this article, you can read about what prompted Ann-Kristin and Jonny to buy a cabin here, how the buying process took place and how the couple experience Lemonsjøen.
Mainly because of the local connection, as my mother is from Murudalen, says Jonny, but also because we have familiarized ourselves with the area and all the possibilities that exist here, through all four seasons. I have been in Murudalen for 30 years, and have really learned to appreciate the area and the people up here, Ann-Kristin adds. When we now got the opportunity to build our own cabin in this fantastic area, it is truly a dream come true.
"The purchase process was very straightforward and orderly for us, as I work in the cottage industry and am familiar with all the procedures," says Jonny. That said, it is very well facilitated to make it easy to buy a plot, agree on groundwork and get a cabin built, regardless of whether you choose one of the cabin suppliers established at Lemonsjøen, or whether you choose a cabin model based on your own preferences. From the time we bought the plot and signed the contract for the cabin, it took about 10 months until the cabin was ready for occupancy. We were very keen to place our cabin as desired on the plot, and this went smoothly, as we stayed well within the zoning regulations and building limits.
The silence, and the proximity to nature. We live in Øyer, right next to Hafjell, and can not fully praise how wonderful it is to come up here and just enjoy nature and silence. There are alpine and cross-country skiing trails in the immediate vicinity, but for us, the opportunities in summer and fall are just as important. Mountain hikes on foot, fishing opportunities in all directions, and just a short trip by car, then you are at Gjendesheim, in the heart of Jotunheimen. It is also possible to rent electric bikes and boats.
We haven't had time to get to know many neighbors yet, but those we have been in contact with have been very nice and welcoming. It seems that the shoulders are lowered and that the smile appears on most people who enter the area, something we understand well. Lemonsjøen Fjellstue and Kalven Seter are catering facilities that we appreciate very much and that we use as often as we can. The disadvantage is that these are closed for periods, and often at the same time, so there are suddenly no opportunities to eat out. With increasing development and more established holiday homes, hopefully the customer base for these businesses will become large enough to keep them open all year round.
We will use the cabin at every opportunity, and throughout the year. Now we have all the clothes and equipment we need at the cabin, and with a travel time of only one and a half hours, it is possible to take spontaneous trips every free weekend. We have no intention of renting out our cabin, but it's nice to know that the possibility exists, and with good income potential.
Absolutely! We would still characterize Lemonsjøen as a little undiscovered gem. Even though construction activity has picked up, it's still peaceful and nice up here, compared to the larger destinations.
